Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, is just one of the multiple endgame bosses in Diablo 4. Like all endgame bosses you’ll face, you’ll need to gather specific materials to summon Grigoire—and defeating him is no easy task either.
Grigoire is only a stepping stone in the larger chain of endgame bosses. He’s an essential boss to defeat to get Duriel’s summoning materials and valuable loot of his own.
If you are trying to summon and slay Grigoire in Diablo 4, here’s what you need to do.
Where to find Grigoire in Diablo 4
You can find Grigoire in the Hall of the Penitent, a dungeon in the Dry Steppes region. It’s directly south of Ked Bardu and east of the Onyx Watchtower. Before entering the dungeon, you’ll need to get the materials to summon Grigoire.
How to summon Grigoire in Diablo 4
You can summon Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint in Diablo 4, by placing Living Steel inside the Light-Touched altar. The amount of Living Steel you need to use depends on whether you’re summoning normal Grigore or tormented Grigoire.
To summon normal Grigoire, you’ll need two Living Steel in World Tier Three, and in World Tier Four, you’ll need five pieces of Living Steel. To summon tortured Grigoire, you’ll need 15 Living Steel and one Stygian Stone.
If you’ve never summoned Grigoire before, you can get Living Steel by finding and opening Tortured Gift of Living Steel chests in Helltide events for 275 Aberrant Cinders. It can also drop from Elites, Hellbornes, Blood Maidens, Events, Whisper Caches, and Treasure Goblins. And for those trying to defeat tormented Grigoire in Diablo 4, you can get Stygian stones by clearing higher tiers of the Pit.
How to defeat Grigoire in Diablo 4
Grigoire is one of the more tedious endgame bosses. You have to be wary of his lightning attacks and mechanics. Before entering this fight, be sure to consume an Elixir of Lightning Resistance to decrease your incoming damage and equip either Topaz for increased Lightning Resistance or a Diamond to increase your resistance to all elements.
Grigoire might not be the toughest boss, but his lightning grid mechanic can be nasty. The lighting grid attack appears in the first phase; you’ll see several streams of lightning randomly appear across the arena. This will change how you navigate around the arena as these lightning streams deal damage, but it’s also the best opportunity to deal damage.
You’ll notice which squares are safe to stand in based on their coloring. If they’re red, move; if they’re plain, stay. Getting to these safe zones is crucial to avoid unnecessary damage. During this move, Grigoire stands completely still and is left vulnerable. So, if you can navigate safely around the room, do so and attack him.
Aside from this, Grigoire’s arsenal mostly contains basic melee attacks, which are fairly telegraphed and easily avoidable if you move behind him. Try to dodge as much as possible to ensure you’re behind him; I burned through a lot of healing potions on my first attempt.
So, as long as you avoid his melee attacks, his lightning balls, and the lightning grids and attack in between his moves, you’ll defeat Grigoire pretty quickly. If you’re under-leveled, his attacks will deal considerable damage, so be cautious and try not to tank everything, even if you have a lot of health and health regeneration.
Grigoire loot and Shards of Agony in Diablo 4
If you killed Grigoire on World Tier Four, then you might notice he drops a unique item called Shards of Agony. This item is used to summon another endgame boss, Duriel.
To summon Duriel, who also drops plenty of Rare, Legendary, and Unique items, you need two Shards of Agony and two Mucus-Slick Eggs. You can get Mucus-Slick Eggs by summoning another end-game boss, an Echo of Varshan. Once you’ve collected all the necessary Malignant Body parts to summon Varshan, you can similarly defeat this boss to pick up the needed Mucus-Slick Eggs.
In addition to a Shard of Agony, you’ll also get loot for killing Grigoire. Some of the best items Grigoire drops include:
- Path of Trag’Oul (Necromancer boots).
- Axial Conduit (Sorcerer pants).
- Flameweaver (Sorcerer gloves).
- Greaves of the Empty Tomb (Necromancer pants).
- Mjolnic Ryng (Druid ring).
- Rage of Harrogath (Barbarian chest armor).
- Ramaladni’s Magnum Opus (Barbarian weapon).
- Shroud of Khanduras (Rogue).
So, if you need any of these items or Shards of Agony to summon Duriel, this is everything you need to know about finding, summoning, and defeating Grigoire.
