You were right, the Elden Ring DLC’s final boss was actually cheating against you

This actually explains quite a bit.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’s final boss was a tough challenge for most players, and it now appears that those who had gripes with how unfair it felt were right all along.

A July 30 Reddit thread shows what the hitboxes for Promised Consort Radahn’s swords were in Elden Ring’s DLC, and they are massive. They are way bigger than what the sword models would suggest, and could explain how oppressive the fight feels.

The funny thing is that Radahn’s first phase is quite simple compared to his second phase, where he is joined by Miquella to create a mash-up of holy magic that devours the battlefield with constant AoE damage.

So, the dual wielded swords aren’t even the toughest part of the fight, but they are also seemingly cheesier than you may think. Starscourge Radahn had a similar issue in the base game, but it was patched. Unfortunately, it appears that fix did not follow him into the “afterlife.”

The hitbox effectively makes the sword wider, as shown in the image above, but it also makes it longer. This is felt especially hard with Radahn’s numerous piercing attacks where he lunges forward towards you. If you felt like the range was a bit too long for the animation, you aren’t alone.

“My guess is this boss was meant to be the culmination of the ‘do not ever roll backwards ever for any reason or we will punish you’ squad of bosses,” one Redditor said. “They just REALLY wanted you rolling into Radahn to dodge him, and wanted to make sure if you ever rolled away he would have the range to catch you no matter what.”

Elden Ring’s latest update, version 1.13, made several changes to PvP spells, including a nerf for its most overpowered and buffs for several underperformers.
