Ginger Island was added in Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update. This introduced a massive new area to the game with a lot of new things to do. To unlock most of these features, however, players need to acquire Golden Walnuts, which function as currency on Ginger Island.
Players need to collect and use these 130 Golden Walnuts to unlock new areas and features on Ginger Island. We have curated a list of all of the fixed locations where Golden Walnuts can be found in each section of Ginger Island as well as in the Volcano Dungeon.
List of all Golden Walnut locations in Stardew Valley
North Ginger Island
Golden Walnuts: 28
This section contains a fair amount of Golden Walnuts to start with. It also contains the Volcano Dungeon sub-region, which will be tackled in the final portion of this list. As the second region with the most walnuts in Stardew Valley, you’ll probably bump into many of them by accident.
Please note that, aside from the ones you get from completing the fossils or paying attention to the setting, you also have seven walnuts you can only find by digging specific spots in North Ginger Island.

By placing a Banana on the altar and solving the Gem Birds Shrine puzzle, you can get your hands on eight of the 11 Walnuts in the region. If you know where to look for them, you’ll be able to collect all Golden Walnuts in this region rather quickly.

West Ginger Island
Golden Walnuts: 52
This region of Ginger Island contains the most Golden Walnuts, but many of them can be found surprisingly easily. Most of them can be found via quest rewards, as well as by harvesting crops and mining rocks.
If you want a significant amount of Golden Walnuts, start by giving the Gourmand Frog the items he wants in the proper order, then complete the Pirate Wife’s quest, Harvest crops, and spend some time mining mussel rocks. With that out of the way, you’ll already have collected 30 of the 52 Golden Walnuts in the region.

South Ginger Island
Golden Walnuts: 12
Getting to the final region of Ginger Island, these Golden Walnuts can be found in the area to the southeast of the main beach, which is only accessible once players build the Resort. There is one Golden Walnut that can be acquired before the Resort is built, however.
The Mermaid puzzle is the task that awards you the most Golden Walnuts. Do that and play darts with the pirates to get eight out of the twelve walnuts available in this area. All the other tasks only grant you a single walnut.
Task | Reward |
Complete the Mermaid puzzle (the mermaid only appears on rainy days) | Five Golden Walnuts |
Play darts with pirates inside Pirate Cove (pirates only appear on non-rainy nights) | Three Golden Walnuts |
Fish in the center of the star-shaped tide pool | One Golden Walnut |
Dig spot between a diamond of multiple yellow starfish on the beach area | One Golden Walnut |
Dig spot in a patch of sand beside some barrels to the east of the lagoon | One Golden Walnut |
Walnut bush on a hidden path to the right of the entrance to South Ginger Island (this one can only be acquired before the resort is built) | One Golden Walnut |
Volcano Dungeon
Golden Walnuts: 21
The Volcano Dungeon is an optional dungeon location on Ginger Island where the final Golden Walnuts in Stardew Valley can be found. This area is located on North Ginger Island and the Golden Walnuts present here are markedly easier to obtain.
Finding Golden Walnuts in the Volcano Dungeon is a straightforward process. You’ll find most of the walnuts in this area by opening chests, mining blocks, and killing monsters. You can get 17 walnuts from those activities. The four remaining walnuts will be hidden in fixed locations and shouldn’t be too hard to find once you know where to look for them.
Task | Reward |
Open chests, mine, defeat monsters | 17 Golden Walnuts |
Walnut bushes near the Forge at the top level of the Volcano Dungeon | Two Golden Walnuts |
Walnut bushes outside the Volcano Dungeon (this area can only be accessed by clearing the lava path using the watering can, then crossing the path) | Two Golden Walnuts |
The other six Golden Walnuts in Stardew Valley
- Five Golden Walnuts can be found by chance when fishing.
- One Golden Walnut can be found the first time Clint opens a Golden Coconut.
These are the only Golden Walnuts without a fixed location. As mentioned above, five can be randomly acquired when you’re fishing. So, if you’re looking for those five walnuts, grab your fishing rod and go for it. As for the last one, you will get it the first time the blacksmith cracks open a Golden Coconut for the first time. You won’t be seeing any other Golden Walnuts coming out of coconuts after you get this one.
The Parrot in Leo’s Hut
The parrot in Leo’s hut gives you hints for 123 out of 130 Golden Walnuts in Stardew Valley. However, if you find all the walnuts from a hint in one day, the parrot won’t give you any other hints until the next day.
The Parrot doesn’t tell you anything about the Golden Walnut in the southern bush of the Gem Birds shrine area, the three Golden Walnuts obtained by placing a banana on the eastern altar near Leo’s hut, and the one won from the Darts Game.
