Deep down, every League of Legends player wants to win (yes, even that top laner who first-timed Teemo in your promos once) and that includes those diving into some relaxing ARAM matches—and that means playing the best picks.
While Summoner’s Rift has its standout regulars each update, as does League’s new Arena mode, the ARAM metagame can be a little more volatile, especially when Riot Games’ balance team keeps working hard to make the all-round, all-mid mode as fair as possible with buffs, nerfs, and major changes.
Because of this, even the smallest of changes can shift the dynamic of our favorite champions).
So, we’ve analyzed all the best champs with the highest win rates in ARAM across all major regions—with a little help from League stats site U.GG—to give you the best chance to conquer the Abyss.
Best LoL ARAM champions in Patch 14.17
1) Jhin
Jhin is one of a few AD carries on the list for the best ARAM champions in Patch 14.17 and it seems like he’s here to stay for another patch cycle. With his best ARAM build, which involves The Collector and Boots of Swiftness, Jhin has a 52.66 percent win rate across 105,444 games. So, if Jhin is somehow up for grabs in your next ARAM game, pick him up.
2) Caitlyn
Hitting the list this patch is Caitlyn, who, along with Jhin, have been the most picked champions to play in ARAM. It’s easy to see why: With her 51.83 percent win rate and how easy it is to play her, Caitlyn’s a solid choice, particularly if you use her best ARAM build, which, like Jhin, also involves The Collector and Infinity Edge. Both of these items increase her attack damage and crit, which means when you land a hit, they’ll be even more deadly than normal.
3) Lux
Lux is a strong choice to play on the Howling Abyss because her kit’s easy to pick up, her combos are simple, and when you use her best ARAM build (which involves increasing her ability power through Rabadon’s Deathcap and Luden’s Companion) she’s a ball of destruction. This shows; her win rate in ARAM in this patch is 52.77 percent across 104,489 games. If you have a chance of playing Lux, do it because her binds and damage are worthwhile.
4) Morgana
In this patch cycle, Morgana’s one of my favorite champions to pick up in ARAM because her shield, bind, and Tormented Shadow (W) are just too good to pass up—particularly if you can’t get Lux, who has a similar kit. When Morgana’s built with Liandry’s Torment and Blackfire Torch, which means she deals additional damage and damage over time, your kills whittle away at the enemy’s health. And this is why she has a 53.14 percent win rate in over 96,000 games right now.
5) Veigar
I hate to say it but Veigar is another League champion that’s too good not to bring onto the Howling Abyss in this patch because his cage is annoying in such a small space. He currently has a 52.64 percent win rate across 96,137 games if you apply his best ARAM build. So, if you’re fond of playing Veigar, he’s perfect in ARAM right now.
Honorable Mentions
While they may not be the very best characters in the single-lane mode, there are four or five other League champions I’d also recommend locking in in ARAM if you see the dice roll throw them your way in the lobby:
- Brand (52.27 percent win rate)
- Miss Fortune (50.37 percent win rate)
- Ezreal (50.63 percent win rate)
- Varus (52.05 percent win rate)
