European jungler Marcel “Dexter” Feldkamp is now a free agent and plans to declare North America as his competitive home, sources close to the player tell the Daily Dot.
Feldkamp’s contract expired on Nov. 1, and he’s not yet decided if he’ll re-sign with Elements. But with the change of his residency, he may look to make his mark in the States for the first time since Summer 2014. Cloud9, Team SoloMid, and Immortals currently have open positions, but none of those teams have reportedly spoken to Feldkamp yet.
And for now, he plans to take offers from both regions. If he takes a European offer or stays with Elements, he’ll occupy an import slot for that team.
The former Counter Logic Gaming jungler is the first of many exempt non-resident (ENR) players who currently or have previously plied their trade in North America and who will need to declare their residency by Nov. 6. An exempt non-resident refers to players who were “grandfathered in” after Riot instituted its Interregional Movement Policy on Sept. 13, 2014, which restricted teams from having more than two players from outside their region. Players who were with teams before the rule was implemented do not take up import slots.
Riot is now forcing these League Championship Series players to declare their residence for further seasons. If a player declares North America, they will count as a normal North American player (and an import in other regions.) If they choose to have Europe, Korea, or China as their home, they will now occupy an import slot if they play in North America.
Other notable players that will also need to declare their residence by Nov. 6 are Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg (speculated to declare for North America), Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen, Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider, Dong-jin “Helios” Shin, and all of the former LMQ players (who have to declare despite living in China).
