It will feature a dark and gritty themed Summoner’s Rift and tons of violent action.

Hunt of the Blood Moon is the thrilling new game mode coming to Summoner’s Rift, and it could be one of the most fast-paced, chaotic modes yet.

The new mode will feature League of Legends’ assassins, according to a post by Riot on the game’s forums, as well as some high-damage-dealing divers. Teams will be made up of five assassins, with each team racing to “sacrifice” victims and gain the favor and blessing of the Blood Moon. Gaining this boon grants your champion the powers of a demon, which sounds just as awesome as you’d expect.

Each sacrifice you make earns more of the Blood Moon’s favor, which is measured by a point system. The first team to 300 points wins the game. Points are gained through the following:

  • Sacrifice a champion: Kill a champion to earn 5 points.
  • Spirits of the Blood Moon: These spirits will filter into each team’s jungle periodically and killing them grants 3 points.
  • Demon Heralds: Heralds spawn on each side as well, but grant 30 points instead (implies that they will be pretty tough to bring down).
  • If you kill three enemies without dying, you are given the “demon brand.” This gives you crazy movement speed, turns you invisible, and lasts for 45 seconds or until you damage an enemy. When you deal damage with it, it deals twenty percent of the target’s maximum health as true damage. That’s right, you heard me. True damage.

The complete list of champions you’ll be able to use in Hunt of the Blood Moon includes:

  • Ahri
  • Akali
  • Camille
  • Diana
  • Ekko
  • Elise
  • Evelynn
  • Fizz
  • Kassadin
  • Katarina
  • Kennen
  • Kha’Zix
  • Leblanc
  • Lee Sin
  • Pantheon
  • Rengar
  • Shaco
  • Talon
  • Yasuo
  • Zed

The new game mode also has a new Summoner’s Rift, complete with demon gates and blood-hued trees as well as new Blood Moon skins for Diana, Talon, Twisted Fate, and Jhin.

Hunt of the Blood Moon was just added to the PBE, Riot’s test client, today, so we can expect to see the game mode go live sometime in the next two patches (if it follows the usual pattern). Soon we can all jump in and start sacrificing each other to the Blood Moon. Now if only we could convince Riot to release U.R.F. again…
