League of Legends has nearly 170 champions, and they all fill a certain role and have unique abilities. While every character is viable in one way or another, depending on the patch and metagame, some stand out above others.

From the top lane down to support, we’ve put together a list of the five best characters in League right now. The data we used is from the leading League stats site U.GG, which gives players a comprehensive look at win rates.

So, if you’re looking for an extra victory to hit the next rank before the end of the season or want to keep an eye on the top of the metagame, this League champion bible is for you.

The best League champions in each position

Top lane: Zac

Each role has a new dominator following the release of Patch 14.13, and in the top lane, it’s Zac. The champion isn’t actually new to the role mains, since he’s been a stellar pick for months now. However, in the latest update, he boasts a massive 53.32 percent win rate in all ranks, at least at the time of writing. That’s hardly surprising, given his versatile engage, sustain, and how beefy he is in teamfights.

Other bruisers and tanks like Dr. Mundo, Urgot, and Yorick follow suit, with 52.17, 52.05, and 52.01 percent win rates, respectively.

Jungle: Amumu

Amumu certainly has nothing to cry about in Patch 14.13 and should be celebrating instead. At the time of writing, no one tops his win rate in the jungle in all ranks, which now sits at 52.91 percent. Once again, those who play League regularly should know it is somewhat expected at all ranks since Amumu is one of the easiest junglers and champions to learn. His kit relies on going in and stunning as many enemies as possible with his ultimate, for the most part.

Lillia, Nocturne, and Shyvana are behind the Sad Mummy with 52.69, 52.56, and 52.34 percent win rates, respectively.

Mid lane: Garen

Now here’s a surprise. While in today’s meta, the mid lane is dominated mostly by mages and assassins like Naafiri, Swain, Brand, or Anivia, an unexpected guest makes his way to the top of the leaderboard—Garen. The Demacian tank currently has a jaw-dropping win rate of 54.23 percent. His gameplay is fairly simple, which is likely why he boasts such enormous stats. Thanks to his tankiness, it’s tough to kill him in the laning phase, and in teamfights, he can just go for squishy carries and turn their lives into hell.

Still, other mid lane contenders aren’t far behind, with Naafiri, Heimerdinger, and Swain following suit with 53.45, 53.39, and 53.06 percent win rates, respectively.

Bot lane: Brand

Like tanks in the mid lane, mages aren’t a natural in the bottom lane, but they are becoming more common. Last patch, it was Seraphine who accumulated the highest win rate in the ADC role, and this time around, it’s Brand. His gargantuan burst is something only a few champions can survive in both early and late game. At the moment of writing, he has an astronomical win rate of 55.21 percent, with second-placed Seraphine recording “only” 52.62 percent.

Support: Taric

Luckily, there are no shenanigans in the support role, where the champions naturally fit for that role are doing well. Taric dominates the role with a 53.13 percent win rate, and given his versatility and tankiness, it’s more than expected. However, many other supports boast a win rate above 51 percent, like Zyra, Leona, Shen, Sona, and Nami.

Versatile all-rounder: Skarner

We wrap the list up with a perfectly versatile pick, Skarner, which can be picked for almost every role, except the ADC and maybe mid lane. Since his rework in early season 14, players have been abusing Skarner in the other roles, amassing jaw-dropping win rates. So if you’re looking for something that can be managed in multiple situations, Skarner is a perfect choice.

Now, go out, lock in one of these League champs, and win!
