We’re officially past the halfway point of the 2024 League of Legends season and the big hits just keep on coming as League Patch 14.11 arrives.
With Patch 14.10—the League midseason update—now firmly established on the live servers and the second split of the year underway, the Riot balance team has turned its eyes to the backend of 2024 and more big changes.
Right off the bat, there are going to be sweeping changes to champions like Ornn (who’s basically getting an item upgrade rework) and K’Sante (because he was just too prevalent at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational) and lane swapping is going under the hatchet as Riot looks to realign ranked and pro play.
Overall, May’s last update will see at least 20 champions and a further half-dozen items and runes change shape through buffs, nerfs, or more targeted adjustments.
Here’s everything about League’s Patch 14.11 update.
When will League Patch 14.11 go live?
League Patch 14.11 will go live on Thursday, May 30, according to Riot’s official 2024 patch plans. This will be a day later than usual because of Memorial Day—most League balance devs will be away that day.
Here are all the key patching times:
- 3pm CT (NA)
- 5am GMT (EU West)
- 3am CET (EU North East)
- 8am KR (Korea)
Expect several hours of server downtime once patching begins. Matchmaking will be disabled across all League queues three hours before the update is set live.
What’s in League Patch 14.11?
Lane swapping gets blasted
If you were watching the Mid-Season Invitational, you may have noticed the lane swapping between the bot and top lane. Although it can be a great way to counter those pesky counterpicks, the devs and even pros like G2’s BrokenBlade want it removed.
In Patch 14.11, the devs hope to make enough lane adjustments, specifically by adjusting fortification and first turret gold values, to eliminate the desire to swap lanes. Once it drops, we’ll see how this unfolds in ranked and pro games.
Ornn items the focus of huge changes
Ornn—or, more specifically, his Masterwork items he’s prominently picked for—is getting an overhaul. Every League item will now be upgradable, with their upgrades equating to around 1,000 gold worth of value. The one-item cap is still sticking around and the downside is Ornn items won’t have unique names anymore.
K’Sante set to become more “exploitable”
K’Sante was among MSI 2024’s three most-picked champions because of his defense, utility, and power. When combined, it makes him the perfect pick to counter most champions. But it makes him too hard to counter. In response, the devs are making adjustments to the damage his W can absorb and the general function of his kit. Basically, K’Sante is getting a mini rework, making him (potentially) viable for us to play again in solo queue.
ARAM changes make Howling Abyss more fast-paced
Tweaks are coming to ARAM, with changes to Homeguard coming at the start of the game and in the first five minutes. On the live League servers, the Homeguard bonus you get when leaving base lasts 10 seconds. In Patch 14.11, it’ll be upped to 20 seconds.
This should make it a little easier for ARAM players to get back to lane after dying in the early stages of any given lobby. Additionally, it should incentivize players who haven’t died for the first few minutes of a game to catch an early death and trip back to the shop as the run back to the action won’t take as long.
Essence Emporium returns
The Blue Essence Emporium is making its glorious return from Thursday, May 30 to Wednesday, June 19, giving players a chance to spend their hard-earned Blue Essence on a ton of different goodies. This loot includes a ton of different chromas, accessories, emotes, and other in-game and profile items to show off for your friends.
Unfortunately for some gamers, players are still unable to gift mystery wards and icons to their friends due to technical difficulties. The developers will continue to work on the system so that gifting can be activated the next time the emporium opens up to the public.
Pre-game report changes
Starting with Patch 14.11, players will now be able to report inappropriate Riot IDs from champion select onward, as well as after a match concludes in the post-game lobby. To report a player, hit the report button next to the offending player’s portrait, and select “Inappropriate name” as the reason for the report.
Infernal skin line returns in a blaze of glory
Three new skins are being added to the classic Infernal skin line. Infernal skins have been in League for nearly a decade, and in Patch 14.11, three older champions—Ashe, Olaf, and Karma—are getting skins for the legacy line.
These additions to the Infernal skin line are particularly peculiar as Riot has made a habit of adding at least one relatively new (last five years) champion to new skin releases. But this Infernal update features only three champs, with the most recent release among them coming over 13 years ago.
Here are all the new Infernal skins coming in this patch:
- Infernal Ashe (1,350 RP)
- Infernal Karma (1,350 RP)
- Infernal Olaf (1,350 RP)
These skins will go live during the Patch 14.11 cycle.
