Mid-Season Roster Changes: compLexity, Na’Vi, Secret

Just because the Fall Season is only halfway through doesn't mean that teams will wait to make lineup changes.

With so many major teams out of the Boston Major, squads worldwide are already looking to make changes in anticipation for the next roster lock for the Spring Major in March. In the past 24 hours, we’ve seen three major teams make movements: compLexity, Natus Vincere and Team Secret.

Reforming Europe’s Headine Teams

It has been a dissapointing two weeks for the big names in Europe, with major organizations failing to qualify for the Boston Major, most notably the promising Team Liquid. However, it’s Na’Vi that’s taken the first move. This morning, Na’Vi announced that Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev, Ivan “ArtStyle” Antonov, and Dmitry “Ditya Ra” Minenkov would no longer be on the roster. This leaves only Danil “Dendi” Ishutin and Victor “GeneRaL” Nigrini under the legendary black and yellow banner.

Additionally, Team Secret announced that they would also make changes before the end of the major. The organization announced that they would be saying goodbye to position three player Lee “Forev” Sang-do, and would aquire Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann from Escape Gaming.

Major Issues for compLexity

It has not been an easy two months for compLexity. For the last two months, coL has faced a sort of “qualifier hell”: the team would make it to the final of every qualifier they attended, only to be decisively knocked out by Team NP. The number of missed opportunities has clearly taken a toll on the team, and last night it seems that the team has come to a breaking point.

The team announced last night that it would be benching Justin “jk” Rosselle from its active roster. The team is set to attend the Northern Arena BEAT Invitational LAN tomorrow and the Boston Major in three weeks, raising questions on who can substitute for the team on such short notice. It must be noted that subtitutes are permitted at Valve sponsored events this season, and compLexity would not be the only team using one. Execration is using SEA support Adam Erwann Shah “343” bin Akhtar Hussein at the event after benching Rappy last week. However, it’s almost safe to say that the coL’s performance will certainly be affected at both these events.
