OpTic Gaming are chasing a second major title to close out the year, after reaching the semifinals of the Esports Championship Series (ECS) season two finals.
The ELEAGUE season two champions lost a rematch to Astralis, but were able to take out top North American seed Cloud9 and FaZe Clan to advance out of Group A.
The match against Cloud9 was a close affair, with Cloud9 taking game one. OpTic then hit back to win game two on Overpass, before an overtime win on Cache sealed the series. In that final game OpTic overcame a 10-5 first half loss.
Astralis advanced as Group A’s top seed after wins over OpTic and FaZe on day one.
EnVyUs won out in Group B, somewhat surprisingly, thanks to a thrilling 22-19 overtime win over Immortals and a 16-3 thrashing of Danish side Team Dignitas. The French side managed to avoid double Major champions SK Gaming, after the Brazilians dropped the group opener to Dignitas.
That left SK to come from the lower bracket, first winning the battle of Brazil 2-0 over Immortals. They then saw off a strong challenge from Dignitas to win the final qualification game 2-1, and secure a place in the top four.
The remaining four sides will meet later today to determine a winner. Astralis will face SK Gaming in a re-run of the ELEAGUE semifinal, with OpTic looking to continue their hot run of form against EnVyUs.
