In a post on the Dota 2 Blog today, Valve released further details surrounding the qualifier stage for the Kiev Major.
There will be eight teams that will be directly invited to the Major. These invite slots will be announced by Valve in the Compendium section of the Battle Pass in the Dota 2 client. The invitees will be revealed at 7:00 AM PST (10 AM EST, 3 PM GMT), and all eight will be shown within five minutes of one another.
Valve also released the details of the Regional Qualifiers format. For the Kiev Major, format will vary by region. All four regions will have open qualifiers, but NA, EU, and SEA will all feature a slot to the main qualifiers reserved for the victors of a special Battle Cup called the Champions Cup. The regional breakdown is as follows:
- North America
- 5 Qualifier Invites
- 4 Open Qualifier Slots
- 1 Champions Cup Winner
- South America
- 2 Qualifier Invites
- 6 Open Qualifier Slots
- Europe
- 7 Qualifier Invites
- 2 Open Qualifier Slots
- 1 Champions Cup Winner
- CIS
- 8 Qualifier Invites
- 2 Open Qualifier Slots
- South East Asia
- 7 Qualifier Invites
- 2 Open Qualifier Slots
- 1 Champions Cup Winner
Teams are region locked for the entirety of the qualifiers; for example, a European team could not enter the South American Open Qualifiers, even if they were to brave the ping disadvantage.
The Open Qualifiers will be from March 6 to 9, and the Main Qualifiers will be from March 10 to 13. Only the winning team from each region will be invited to the Kiev Major.
