Winterfox players resolve team dispute, take over ESL Pro League license

The players were reportedly stranded in Australia and owed unpaid salary.

About three weeks after Winterfox left its Counter-Strike team stranded in Australia, the team and the players have parted ways.

A report earlier this month claimed that the organization had failed to obtain visas and return travel tickets for the team, leaving them potentially ineligible to continue competing in ESL Pro League—or return to their NA base.

According to the reports by Slingshot Esports, Winterfox also owed money to both current and former players.

Now the sides have parted ways, and the roster will remain together in the hopes of securing a new sponsor for themselves.

“Despite everyone’s best efforts,” the team and players told Slingshot Esports in a joint statement. “Things have not turned out the way any of us had planned. Nonetheless, we all believe that parting ways is best for everyone involved. We have resolved all outstanding issues between the CSGO team and Winterfox, and the team shall continue to participate in the ESL Pro League.”

This continued participation was confirmed by ESL. The players have been granted special dispensation to play out the season from Australia, although that comes with an obvious disadvantage of substantially higher ping.

The team has lost all six of its matches since being in Australia, and currently sits second last with a record of 2-20. In the seemingly unlikely event they retain their spot in the league, the players will be required to find a North American base in order to continue next season, or they will forfeit the spot.
