New York Excelsior has released coach Kim “WizardHyeong” Hyeong-seok from the organization.
“Today we say goodbye to coach WizardHyeong,” NYXL wrote on Twitter. “We could not be more thankful for all his hard work and leadership throughout the team’s inaugural season. This was a mutual decision and simply put, WizardHyeong, you will be missed.”

No other details were given. Kim later wrote on Twitter that he’s looking for a new team. “I really appreciate the management and the players,” he wrote. “Planning to do lots of streams and content creation.”
Despite not making it to the Overwatch League grand finals, New York Excelsior finished the inaugural regular season in first place. Kim was beloved by the NYXL fan community for his dedication to the organization. Responses to the announcement include shock and appreciation at the decision. No other changes have been made just yet to the NYXL roster. The Overwatch League’s trade window for current players and Contenders players is open. On Sept. 9, all unsigned players will become free agents. From Sept. 9 to Oct. 7, expansion teams will be able to sign Overwatch League free agents. The official free agency period will kick off on Oct. 8. Teams will be restructuring throughout months to come.
There is no current start date for the Overwatch League’s second season. More information is expected to be released in the coming months.
