OGN Overwatch Apex photo makes National Geographic’s Best Photos of 2017 list

A photo from South Korea’s OGN Overwatch Apex tournament has made National Geographic’s Best Photos of 2017 list.

The photo by National Geographic photographer Max Aguilera-Hellweg was published in September with an article titled “How Science Is Unlocking the Secrets of Addiction.”

Team Envy and Team Kongdoo are featured in the photo, with Kim “birdring” Ji-hyuk’s face prominently displayed on the studio’s massive screen. Taken at the S-Plex Center in Seoul, South Korea, the Overwatch Apex tournament photo was chosen from more than 2 million photos, according to National Geographic.

Among the other 56 photos chosen, there are images from places across the world.

The next season of Overwatch Apex has yet to be announced. Next year, however, the Overwatch Apex will be rebranded as Contenders Korea—Blizzard’s Overwatch developmental league. Details regarding the new Contenders leagues, which will span across seven regions, have not been announced.
