Overwatch will go free-to-play next weekend, from Aug. 23 to 27.
Blizzard announced the free weekend this afternoon with a tweet from the official Overwatch account. “Next weekend heroes play free,” Blizzard wrote on Twitter. “Play Overwatch free on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.”

As with all free weekends, players without game licenses will be able to participate in Overwatch’s Arcade, Quick Play, and custom games. Competitive Play will remain off limits unless a free player decides to purchase the game. All progress made on a free account will be pulled over should the player use the same account when buying the game.
It’s a good time to boot up the Blizzard first-person shooter. The game is right in the midst of its Summer Games event, which added a whole slew of new skins along with a soccer-inspired game mode.

The free weekend also coincides with Blizzard’s upcoming appearance at gamescom 2018, where the developer is expected to unveil new content. Blizzard hasn’t said exactly what’s coming, however. In addition, the Overwatch League’s All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26.
Overwatch’s free weekend will begin at 1pm CT on Aug. 23.
