Blizzard is building an Overwatch scouting report to help OW League buyers acquire players

Overwatch League team owners will start building out professional teams soon, according to a letter released by Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer. Blizzard has just sent out an email survey to a “select group of top players from around the world” who can opt-in to a report to be distributed to Overwatch League team owners. Essentially a scouting report, the document is being built to make the process of acquiring a top tier Overwatch team easier for newcomers. “In gathering and organizing this data, our intent is to provide teams with a useful tool to support a roster-building strategy; we are not saying that this information should override other important factors,” Nanzer wrote. Players contacted were chosen based on a top-500 finish in Competitive Play in Overwatch Season 3 or 4, a playoff finish in a high-caliber tournament like OGN Overwatch Apex, or membership on a professional Overwatch team. If they choose, players will have their information distributed to Overwatch League team owners. Those who received an email aren’t guaranteed a spot on an Overwatch League team, but it certainly is a recognition of skill and dedication. The email sent out to players asks for information regarding social media following, Overwatch role preference, and tournament experience. “Teams looking for players may use the information we provide to identify candidates for their starting or substitute lineups and may reach out to those candidates for further discussion and to seek additional information,” the emails reads. Nanzer’s Overwatch League update is a welcome announcement after months of silence from Blizzard. In March, a Morgan Stanley report suggested the Overwatch League could make more than $100 annually. Months later, a report from Richard Lewis said that the Overwatch League’s first two slots had been purchased by New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, respectively.
