Once New Year’s hits, it’s customary to tear down your holiday decorations and toss your Christmas tree to the curb. It’s no different in Overwatch, where a holiday-themed seasonal event has been running since Dec. 11.
Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland event will officially end today, Jan. 2. There’s no exact time for the event’s closure. Sometimes the seasonal events event spread into the following day after the announced end time. But if you’re still looking for Blizzard’s holiday Overwatch gear, whether that’s skins or sprays, you’re going to want to unlock them before Jan. 2 is over, just to be safe. Once the event ends, Blizzard will stuff all the seasonal content back into the vault until next year—skins, snow-dusted maps, sprays, emotes, and brawls. (Last year, Blizzard brought back some seasonal content during its anniversary event. It’s a possibility for this year, but nothing’s been confirmed.)

The highlight of this year’s Winter Wonderland event, which is in its third year since Overwatch’s launch in 2016, was definitely the seasonal skins. Overwatch’s developers dressed up the game’s heroes in winter sports gear and as ethereal holiday delights. But it wasn’t all holiday cheer. The Winter Wonderland update added Christmas sparkle to Overwatch’s Blizzard World map, which proved to be a little much for the servers. After the update, Blizzard World broke, locking players inside spawn. Blizzard disabled the map for a day or two before fixing the problem and uploading it back into the game.
Overwatch’s next seasonal update will likely by the Lunar New Year event. This year, the Lunar New Year begins on Feb. 5—which means we’re likely to see the event early in February. New skins, as always, are expected with the Overwatch seasonal event. But it’ll also mean the return of Capture the Flag, which was introduced with the event a few years back. Details of Overwatch’s Lunar New Year celebration haven’t been confirmed.
