Overwatch’s free weekend is here.
The free event started on July 26 and will continue until 1:59am CT on July 31. All 28 Overwatch heroes are unlocked during the free weekend, including Wrecking Ball, the tank hero just added to the game earlier this week. Likewise, 18 maps will be playable during the weekend across custom games, the Arcade, and Quick Play. Competitive Play is the only mode that’s off-limits to free Overwatch players.

All platforms can participate, too—PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
As always, progress made during the free weekend will transfer over to a paid account should you choose to upgrade. All cosmetics earned during that time are included in that offer, so unlock skins without fear. The only thing that won’t transfer is achievements, according to Blizzard.
PlayStation 4 players without a PS Plus account can participate in the free weekend, but you’ll need an account to play if you buy the game. Xbox Live players need an Xbox Live Gold account to access Overwatch on the Xbox One. As for PC players, you’re good with an internet connection and a Blizzard Battle.net account.
Blizzard’s said that Overwatch has 40 million players, but it’s not clear if that’s active players or paid accounts. Despite its age—the Blizzard first-person shooter is over two years old—Overwatch continues to bring in new players, but the pace has slowed. Still, any continued increase in players is a good thing for Overwatch.
