Philadelphia Fusion’s Overwatch Contenders team will make their big debut on Feb. 4 at the Overwatch BEAT Invitational.
The young team—literally, there is a 14-year-old on the squad—was unveiled on Jan. 29 and is the first team confirmed to compete as part of the BEAT Invitational. The BEAT Invitational will be held Feb. 4 to 6, and it’s entirely online. Three more teams are expected to be announced soon.
The BEAT Invitational will follow a double elimination format with each series played as a best-of-five. The grand final match will be a best-of-seven match. A group stage will be played on Jan. 4 to determine seeding for the tournament’s playoffs.
The tournament has a small prize pool, though a lack of third-party tournaments make this an important place to see up-and-coming talent. It’s likely the remainder of the field will hint at other Contenders rosters, too, though that remains unconfirmed.
Season two champions Rogue have since disbanded, with the members dispersed across a number of Overwatch teams. As such, they won’t return to the BEAT Invitational in 2018.
