Playing support in Overwatch 2 is not for the faint-hearted. Support characters exist to enhance the abilities of their teammates and give them a boost when their health bars are low. Yet, these flexible heroes can also deal out some serious damage, provide utility to their teammates, or debuff their enemies.
Sometimes, the key to shutting down the enemy team is to attack their support heroes first, which increases the number of resources tanks and DPS will have to spend to stay alive. Usually, when one or both enemy support heroes fall, a fight can easily be won.
Here are the best counters for each Overwatch 2 support hero, so you know what heroes to play to track down your enemy’s backline.
Best counters to every hero in Overwatch 2
Ana
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Winston, Ramattra | Echo, Pharah, Tracer | Kiriko |
Ana is generally one of the hardest characters to play, taking many hours of playtime to master. She has little self-heal and requires precision to land shots to heal enemies. Her low mobility makes her an easy target for opposing heroes with high mobility.
Winston can jump across a massive distance to land on and take out a squishy Ana, making him one of her hardest counters. Ramattra’s melee form will also displace her and whittle her health down easily. Echo and Pharah are generally difficult for Ana to hit, especially as she has to focus on healing her own team on the ground. Tracer is the most difficult hero for Ana to hit with her Sleep Dart, making her a great pick to take Ana down. Kiriko’s Suzu is the only ability that can completely nullify any negative effects from Ana’s powerful Biotic Grenade.
Baptiste
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Cassidy, Ashe, Mei | Lucio |
Baptiste is a powerful frontline healer. His Immortality Field can readily keep his team alive, especially if a shield tank is guarding it, and his Amplification Matrix makes it easier for a defending team to put out some damage while they hold a payload or control point.
Cassidy and Ashe can both deal significant damage to Baptiste’s medium-sized hitbox. These heroes also have explosive damage abilities aside from their primary fire that can push allies and Baptiste himself to the minimum number of health points for them to still be alive inside an Immortality Field. Once the Field goes down, you can pick them off.
Mei and Lucio both have crowd-control abilities that can separate Baptiste from his teammates and also nullify the effects of both Immortality Field and Amplification Matrix by forcing players out of position.
Brigitte
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Pharah, Echo, Junkrat |
Brigitte is half support, half tank. She has more health than the average support character and can defend herself with her small shield, which looks like a mini version of Reinhardt’s. She’s also the premiere anti-dive character thanks to the knockback from her Shield Bash and Whip Shot abilities. This means you shouldn’t try using any dive characters, like Winston or Tracer, against her.
Thanks to her half-tank status, Brigitte is a little slower and chunkier than the average support hero. She can’t stun flying targets like Pharah and Echo. Characters have to come fairly close to her for her stun to work, meaning that anyone who can stay at long range has more of an advantage, except for when she puts up her shield. Junkrat is a great option because he can be effective at mid-range and capitalize on brief moments where Brigitte’s shield is down.
Illari
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Orisa, Zarya, D.Va | Cassidy, Ashe, Widowmaker | Baptiste, Lifeweaver, Lucio |
Illari is a support hero capable of dishing out tons of damage. Orisa, Zarya, and D.Va all have great damage-nullifying abilities that will make a big difference in Illari’s ability to be effective. She is a small hero without much health, so hitscan heroes who can pick her off from a distance, like Cassidy, Ashe, and Widowmaker are all great choices. Lifeweaver and Lucio have AOE healing abilities and a movement boost for their team to avoid being Sunstruck. And Baptiste’s Immortality Field can save anyone struck by Illari’s ultimate.
Kiriko
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Roadhog | Tracer, Sombra, Genji, Mei |
Kiriko is a support who exemplifies utility over raw healing output. Like Ana, her primary fire rewards careful shots, and she has a high degree of mobility that can help her quickly get to allies in need. She’s more of a team player than a solo hero: She’s at her best when she can use Swift Step to reach teammates and Protection Suzu and Kitsune Rush to cleanse and buff them. While her Kunai headshot multiplier is massive, she can’t reach her true potential alone.
Any hero that can take away Kiriko’s Swift Step is great to counter her. So a tank with a stun like Roadhog is a good choice. Sombra is also a great counter for Kiriko since a hack can take away all of Kiriko’s survivability and leave her without much HP in the open. It’s difficult for Kiriko to hit her kunai on Tracer and Genji, and Mei can stun Kiriko and separate her from her team.
Lifeweaver
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Sombra, Soldier: 76 | Lucio |
Sombra’s hack takes away virtually all of Lifeweaver’s strengths. Unfortunately, the Thai healer doesn’t have great raw healing output, meaning his primary fire is weak when it comes to healing up his team. Without his platforms and Life Grip, he’s pretty useless. Soldier: 76 can shred straight through Lifeweaver and his team before he even has a chance to heal them up. Soldier: 76 will also be able to destroy platforms and trees easily. Lucio can boop Lifeweaver’s teammates away from platforms or the Tree of Life to render the ultimate useless.
Lúcio
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Winston, Roadhog | Soldier: 76, Cassidy, Symmetra, Torbjorn, Mei | Moira |
Lúcio is fast, small, mobile, and incredibly fun to play. His passive makes it easy to glide along walls and surfaces, enabling him to skate into the enemy team and knock people back with Soundwave, also known as the “boop.” He specializes in strong sustained healing and has the potential for some play of the game-worthy environmental kills.
Unsurprisingly, he’s got a lot of weaknesses to go with his strengths. Because he’s fast and hard to hit, Soldier: 76 and Cassidy are great adaptable choices to hit Lucio. Weapons that auto-lock, like Symmetra’s beam, Moira’s grasp, Winston’s electricity, and Torbjorn’s turret, are also helpful.
Mercy
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Winston, Roadhog | Echo, Cassidy, Widowmaker, Genji, Tracer |
Mercy is the premiere easy-to-play, high-output healer. The beam from her staff locks on and makes it easy to deliver constant healing, even for beginner players. Though she’s targeted more consistently in upper tiers of play, she maintains her usefulness even there thanks to the sheer amount of healing she does and her useful jump-glide movement pattern.
As a flying hero, Mercy shares the same weaknesses to hitscan heroes as Pharah and Echo. Cassidy and Widowmaker, in particular, are very effective against her. Heroes who can dive in from long range and single Mercy out, like Genji, Winston, and Tracer, can take her down if she has no teammates nearby to fly to. Roadhog can one-shot Mercy if he manages to land a hook on her.
Moira
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Roadhog, Zarya | Echo, Pharah, Widowmaker, Junkrat, Mei, Ashe | Ana |
Moira is a versatile and frequently troublesome character to play against. The reach of her Biotic Grasp primary fire is extremely long to compensate for the fact that Moira can’t heal herself and others unless she attacks enemies. The beam auto-locks and deals sustained damage, which can spell death for the opposing team when paired with her bouncing Biotic Orb.
Thanks to her status as a sustained damage dealer, burst fire that can out-damage Biotic Grasp can defeat her faster than she can defeat others. Heroes like Echo, Pharah, Junkrat, and even Ashe excel here. In addition, Ashe and fellow snipers Widowmaker and Ana are out of range of Moira’s primary fire, meaning they can safely target her from a distance. Moira can’t fade out of Zarya’s Graviton Surge or Roadhog’s hook, making them ideal counters for her.
Zenyatta
Tank counters | DPS counters | Support counters |
Junkrat, Pharah, Cassidy, Widowmaker, Ashe, Hanzo, Tracer | Kiriko, Zenyatta. |
Zenyatta is a tough character to play, but underneath his difficult exterior is a hero who rewards good aim and careful positioning. Though he only does a small amount of healing compared to other supports, his Orb of Discord enables him to prioritize targets for the rest of the team and assist in taking out high-profile enemies. His primary fire also does a significant amount of damage, particularly if you land a headshot.
All this power comes in a slow-moving package. Zenyatta has no movement abilities, making him extremely vulnerable to precision headshots from heroes like Widowmaker, Ashe, Cassidy, and Hanzo. His rate of fire is also slow, meaning that AoE burst fire is capable of knocking him out before he can ever hit his shots. Zenyatta players should fear Junkrat and Pharah. As Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord is one of the worst nightmares for every tank hero, there isn’t necessarily a single tank that will counter him better than others, but there are lots of DPS heroes that he should fear.
