Blizzard revealed its newest Overwatch hero, Ashe, to the world on Friday during BlizzCon 2018. But who really is Ashe?
Firstly, she’s a complicated person. Despite being born into a wealthy family, with her parents being important figures in the business world, Elizabeth Caledonia Ashe turned to crime. Her parents neglected her, often leaving her with the family’s omnic butler, Bob.
And when Ashe met outlaw Jesse McCree, her life could never be the same. McCree and Ashe committed crimes together, and it made Ashe realize what she really wanted to do: Outsmart her targets and get away with it.
She, along with three others, founded the Deadlock Gang, one of the most prolific gangs of the American Southwest. In the business of trafficking weapons, the Deadlock Gang—which McCree was a member of—found itself in many clashes with other criminal organizations in the region.
The constant violence between the groups prompted Ashe to bring the organizations together in an attempt to create order and relative peace between them. While they wouldn’t necessarily work together in the traditional sense, Ashe wanted them to at least not work against each other. If the groups stuck to their respective territories and remained uncooperative with law enforcement, they could all succeed.
Ashe’s peace pact worked, and with no criminal organizations working against her, she grew to become one of the most wanted and famous outlaws in history.
Now, Ashe will meet back up with McCree, who was arrested in a sting operation. And despite being a proven leader, she appears to be a little tough to work with. She’ll need to work with her fellow heroes, though, to achieve victory in Overwatch.
