The last two teams heading to the Overwatch World Cup main event have been determined.
After three days of Overwatch in Santa Monica, California, the United States and United Kingdom have secured their spots at the Overwatch World Cup main event. They’ll be joined there by China, France, Sweden, Australia, South Korea, and Canada—all teams that qualified at earlier events.
Heading into day three, United States, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and Germany led their groups—and that didn’t change as the tournament rolled on. All four teams qualified for the Overwatch World Cup Santa Monica playoffs, though only United Kingdom remained undefeated in map score.
In the playoffs, the United States faced Germany and quickly 3-0’ed them for a ticket to BlizzCon. Because Taiwan lost to the United States in the group stage, the Taiwanese team was forced to face the fierce United Kingdom roster in the semifinals. And Taiwan crumbled: The Flash Wolves roster (competing as Taiwan) failed to score a single point against United Kingdom in the playoffs. United Kingdom continued their win streak to secure a space in the Overwatch World Cup main event.
Moving forward, the Overwatch World Cup bracket will be determined by random draw, Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer confirmed during the broadcast. That draw will be streamed live on Aug. 28.
The Overwatch World Cup main event begins Nov. 3 in Anaheim, California. It’ll take place over two days during BlizzCon.
