League of Legends Patch 14.17 paves the way for Worlds-focused change as Riot Games gets to work constructing a competitive metagame for the MOBA title’s biggest esports event through bot lane changes and increasing champion viability.
With the 2024 League World Championship just around the corner, the League developers are lasering in on the champion, runes, items, and overall style of gameplay they want to see at the pinnacle event when it gets started in Europe in September. There will be more, of course—League Patch 14.18 should be the official update—but Riot still wants to have as much time working on all the balance goals as possible.
For everyone else, there’s still plenty to cast your eyes over too, from four incredible new Battle Queens skins and the Aurora nerfs everyone in solo lanes has been waiting for.
Here’s everything about League Patch 14.17 update.
When will LoL Patch 14.17 go live?
League Patch 14.17 will go live on Wednesday, Aug. 28, which aligns with the current 2024 League patch schedule. Here are all the key patching times for Patch 14.17:
- 3pm CT (NA)
- 5am GMT (EU West)
- 3am CET (EU North East)
- 8am KR (Korea)
On update day, you can expect several hours of downtime. As always, matchmaking will be turned off across all League queues three hours before the update.
What’s in LoL Patch 14.17?
AP Senna nerf wishes granted
Ability power Senna has been a near-unstoppable abomination on Summoner’s Rift due to her buffs in Patch 14.16. As soon as the buffs landed, players were calling for immediate nerfs because she’s too strong—especially as she inched up to a 52.24 percent win rate. Enchanter Senna has been fun, but these nerfs are necessary.
Ranged, melee supports get ‘viability’ buffs
Riot’s admitted ranged supports have, for the most part, been thrown to the wayside over the past year. This has left them fairly unviable in season 14, so the balance team wants to change things. While direct targets are still being decided, League‘s devs will “make a few” ranged and melee choices more variable.
Third time’s the charm: More AD carry changes
You know Riot is putting an emphasis on the League bot lane for Worlds when the devs have made targeted changes to ADCs over the past three patches. In this patch, the League devs have two things in mind: runes and specific picks.
Some runes, including top choices like Fleet Footwork, Cut Down, and Absorb Life, are working a little too well in conjunction with the past ADC changes and are making champions like Ezreal and Ashe a little too strong in the solo lanes. So, these top trailblazers and their best rune picks now need to be subdued, Riot says.
Battle Queens skin line welcomes 4 new royals
Four Battle Queen skins are landing in Patch 14.17 alongside several Battle of the God Kings chromas. The latter two, the Garen and Darius alt chromas, have come under fire for their extremely expensive $200 pricetags.
These are the skins and chromas making their way to the store:
- Battle Princess Annie (1,350 RP)
- Battle Queen Fiora (1,350 RP)
- Battle Queen Gwen (1,350 RP)
- Battle Queen Miss Fortune (1,350 RP)
- Divine God-King Darius (Event capsule chroma)
- Fallen God-King Garen (Event capsule chroma)
These skins will go live during the Patch 14.17 cycle.
