Day two of the Overwatch League is in the books, with London Spitfire coming up against Florida Mayhem, followed by Philadelphia Fusion vs. Houston Outlaws. The night finished up with Boston Uprising and New York Excelsior—a series that should strike fear into the hearts of anyone facing Excelsior.
Is Kim “Pine” Do-hyun the best McCree player in the world? If we’re judging from his performance tonight the answer is yes—very much so.
Excelsior faced Uprising in a classic, deep-seated rivalry. The Uprising came into the series as the underdogs, with a team comprised of lesser-known players in the scene. But the boys from Boston ended up not being a problem for the Excelsior—and that is due, in large part, to Pine’s damn good McCree play.
His accuracy and tracking made it near impossible for the Uprising to keep up on the series’ third map, Illios. Tied at 2-2—Boston took the second map, Horizon Lunar Colony—game three was important in gaining momentum, and Excelsior quickly scored both capture points. Anyone within Pine’s crosshairs didn’t stand a chance.
After taking Illios, New York Excelsior closed out the series with a win on Numbani, taking the match-up 3-1.
Ahead of the Uprising and Excelsior match, London Spitfire came out strong in their series against Florida Mayhem with a 3-1 win. Philadelphia Fusion also made their Overwatch League debut against Houston Outlaws.
It was the first time we’ve seen the Fusion, as the team dropped out of the Overwatch League preseason due to player logistics issues. The Fusion played as if they had something to prove—they did—and took down one of the Overwatch League’s most anticipated teams in a 3-2 series.
The Overwatch League continues later today with Los Angeles Valiant vs. Dallas Fuel at 7pm ET, followed by Florida Mayhem vs. Boston Uprising at 9pm ET, and San Francisco Shock vs Shanghai Dragons at 11pm ET.
