The First Descendant is approaching its one-month anniversary, and it’s getting plenty of new content. The developer just released a teaser showcasing what’s in the works, and it sounds like they’re listening to the community’s complaints.
Like any looter-shooter, grinding for specific items is a core mechanic of The First Descendant. The grind can be frustrating, but after hearing players’ feedback, the developer says they’re changing things in a future patch.
In the patch notes for the July 31 update, the developer addresses some of the most frequently discussed issues from the community. While the developer doesn’t provide a release window for the update, it’s certainly going to be worth the wait.
The big news is that “guaranteed drops” are coming to The First Descendant as part of a pity system. If you haven’t received a specific reward after completing the required mission a set number of times, you’re guaranteed to get it.
This will alleviate one of The First Descendant’s biggest problems—players often find themselves stuck in a loop grinding for one item with no luck. Every player has a story of a particular grind that irritated them, so this is a welcome update.
That’s not all, though. Players will also be able to get rid of duplicate Descendant and Weapon Blueprints. It won’t be a simple swap for Gold or Kuiper, either. Instead, the developer is introducing a system to dismantle items for byproducts, similar to how The First Descendant handles other unwanted items.
These byproducts will seemingly serve as another form of currency, with the introduction of a rotating shop system where you can exchange them for “something of value.” Players are hoping this will be a new way to obtain rarer rewards, like the materials required to unlock Descendants and weapons.
The signs are certainly promising for the future of The First Descendant, and there’s plenty on the horizon starting with the launch of season one later this month.
